Preposterous!

I can't help but laugh at this.

* The UNHCR says that the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), though a "commendable"
   legislation, appears to be discriminatory towards persecuted Muslim communities.

* It sought to assist our Supreme Court, in assessing the compatibility of the CAA with India's
   Constitution, in the light of India's obligations under the international human rights law".

The apex court is currently hearing a batch of petitions challenging the constitutional validity of the amended citizenship law and had sought the response of the central government last month.

I can't understand the double standards being followed by the UNHCR because :-

* The CAA is an internal matter of India.
* It doesn't take away the existing citizenship rights of any Indian.
* If it was really concerned about persecuted populations, why hasn't it raised even a little finger
   in the shabby manner China treats its Muslim population - the Uyghurs?

And what's China doing to its Muslim population?

  * Harassed in Xinjiang where the population of the Uyghur Muslims is the largest.
  * Mosques taken down.
  * Believers arrested.
  * Families broken and
  * 1.5 million jailed.

What has the UNHCR done about it, till date?

First do the work you're supposed to do and only then, poke your nose in a country's internal affairs.....otherwise you'll end up with an egg on your face!

There are the anti-nationals who are happy that the UN body is taking action against the Modi government for its decision. In fact, the UN body must have been instigated into taking such a stand - by Indians, within - through falsehoods and half truths. Sad! Why don't you fight Narendra Modi on the political turf with your arguments and points of view and win? Why do you - Shashi Tharoor and gang, are you listening - stoop so low to score brownie points?

India is clear that the CAA is constitutionally valid and complies with all requirements of its constitutional values.

Tailpiece.

Got up late by half an hour but we were ready well within time. A quiet day!
