A glance of the news, that have grabbed the headlines, portends a difficult global economic situation that could have a cascading effect if other countries were to follow similar policies..
(a) The Sino-American Trade War.
The list of Chinese products that have been subjected to tariff hikes by the US are:-
(i) Aerospace.
(ii) Telecom.
(iii) Machinery.
In fact, the high tech industry seen by the Chinese leaders as key to its economic future
has been affected. China has hit back by issuing its list of US items that would be subjected to
tariff hikes which are:-
(i) Soybeans (The biggest US export to China).
(ii) Small aircraft up to 45 tons in weight.
It amounts to a 50 Billion $ hike!
The Trade deficit that the US has with China is to the tune of 375.2 billion $!
The dispute between the two will compel other countries to take sides and raise their import
barriers which could slow down the global economy.
(b) Hafiz Sayeed Finds Himself in the UNSC's list of Terrorists.
The UN Security Council's updated list of terrorists and militant groups has 139 entries from
Pakistan. Hafiz Sayeed has found his rightful place in that list. He's also wanted by the Interpol
for his involvement in terrorist activities.
This would be a setback to his ambitions of becoming the Prime Minister of Pakistan after
the forthcoming elections in Jul, this year. A scoundrel like him was nursing an ambition to
become the leader of his country. The saddest thing would be if the Pakistanis give him and
his party the mandate to rule them!

The train was about 20' late. After getting out I'd taken a shortcut by cutting across the railway line and jumping on to platform 1. This was to reduce the walking distance as I didn't want the shoes that I was wearing to bear the brunt - a costly pair that aren't meant for such rough usage! The short auto rickshaw ride and I was at home by a quarter to 1.
A quick wash and a light supper and we'd hit the sack. Getting up in the early morning was a tall order and we're finally up at 7. Had gone through the chores and after finalising the road surfacing project, a short foray outside was made, to finish pending work that had accumulated.
