Saw an article by Arundhati Roy on Modi's victory and she hasn't stomached it well. She has gone on to say that the RSS had used its clout and the BJP had spent money - as though the others didn't - to have their ideas spread across the nation. I shall quote her last paragraph, obviously, she's speaking on behalf of the Lutyens Delhi,
"We will have to play a new game - one that has not been fixed like this one has. This election in India, that is being hailed as a great exercise in democracy, is the opposite - just a mockery of what democracy is supposed to be".
And the other that I happen to hear was Prashant Bhushan's speech at the Oxford Union Society where he talked about the "Havoc created by the Modi government in every sphere of life in India". And his final word,
"We should not have confidence in Modi's Government''.
One must fight one's political opponents within one's country but to carry it outside the country, shows lack of character. This man, Prashant Bhushan has been filing case after case without being able to prove anything. But can falsehoods and innuendos win you cases?
The common thread in both the cases is that both of them have not touched upon a single achievement but concentrated on their thoughts, based on the hatred towards the man. The hatred can be so intense for the 'secular' gang! Or is it due to the fact that they realise that their writ shall not run anymore in the forging of policies by the government?
On a personal level, I like listening to both ends of the divide so that the narrative gets clearer. And of course, the government with a brute majority must have a semblance of an opposition which can carry out the duties of an effective watchdog, should it go wrong or take unwise decisions!
Tailpiece.
It was a normal day as usual and we were ready well in time. We had decided that we should drive off tomorrow. Lekha will be dropped at her sister's place in Kottarakkara and Rema, at Pidavoor will also give her company and I only hope that she's able to tend her sprained leg well while I finish my work! After spending an evening with my aunt tomorrow, will work at the Foundation from Tuesday.
'The Quarterdeck was shut down progressively through the evening; earlier, had fueled our Chevy and checked the tyre pressure.
