We were up at 4, thanks to the alarm and had gone through the chores. Were ready before 6 but by the time we'd kicked off, it was 5' past 6. The move to Thrissur was nice thanks to the traffic being manageable, no waste of time at the Paliyekkara toll and I was able to maintain an average speed of 70 kmph! We stopped at the second IOC petrol pump to go around the corner and reached Ananda Bhavan at Koratty, by a quarter to 8, for a combo breakfast.
We were the first customers of the day and Radhakrishnan, the new Manager, received us with a warm smile. Young Ganesh Kumar looked after us very nicely and Vishnu, at the parking, was enthusiastic about guiding us in and out of the parking. It was a nice experience!
We were at Edappalli by a 5' to 9 but could pass through the bottlenecks of Palarivattom, Vyttila and Kundannur without losing much time. Reached Shenoy Care by a half past 9 and it was observed that there has been a shake up of the staff; the results were there to see. The processing time has been streamlined and we could meet up with the doctor by a half past 12. Earlier, his junior, Anju had reviewed Lekha's medical condition and scanned the results. The doctor allayed my fears on the three doubts that I had viz :-
(a) the WBC count has been dropping - though well within limits - over the last three quarters.
(b) the Hb is 11.4 and the ESR is 34 and
(c) the TSH reading is high.
The dosage of the medicine for correcting her hyperactive thyroid has been increased! And then the two of us talked about the Foundation's activities; the doc seemed to be quite attentive though I felt that I was stealing the other patients' time and kept my narration short.
We met up with my classmate, Jacob Koshy (Roll No.324) at the Sarovaram for lunch, as previously planned. It was a nice afternoon and a great interaction; we caught up from where we'd left last. After his kidney transplant, he is more relaxed and ever smiling. I think he was weighed by the illness till the surgery was undertaken. God, please take care of him and give him many more years of healthy life.
The next stop was at our canteen, in Katari Bagh, to stock up our share of the grocery. Anand, the security guy, was a great help as usual!
We, then, went to the Chaitanya ENT centre - near Kadavanthra - to have our ears checked and cleaned. By the time I shaped our course to my sister, Rema's flat it was a half past 5. Lost my way and it was left to Padmakumar to correct me; he'd joined us for the last few kilometers.
And finally, it was yakkitiyak and a nice, long evening!
Tailpiece.
The sad part was that the soft liner of the Chevy's bumper has given way thanks to my careless parking in front of the Chaitanya Hospital. Will have to get it fixed up at Puzhakkal, on return.
