Ladakh gets 5 new districts.

Amid demand for statehood, Ladakh gets five new districts, raising the total number to seven.

Move expected to improve governance

The new districts are :-

 

   * Zanskar

   * Drass

   * Sham

   * Nubra and

   * Changthang.

At present, Ladakh has two districts - Leh and Kargil. Due to its size - it is the largest UT in terms of area - and difficult terrain, the UT faces administrative challenges. The move to have more districts could address this. Locals have welcomed the decision with the hope that it will improve governance.

The Congress and the Ladakh Buddhist Association havw welcomed the move.
