What's wrong with us mallus?

Has something happened, overnight, to the Malayalees in these trying times of the Corona virus? It seems to have.

Just citing three incidents in the recent past, which have given an altogether different dimension to committing crimes. The fact that it has happened in Kerala, that boasts of a high literacy rate compared with the other states of the country, makes it all the reason for us to ruminate as to why such things happen. Are we mallus going berserk?

So, without much ado, let's have a look at the three incidents.

 (a) Snakes brought in to assist in the crime.

A sad story of a young lady who was married about three years ago to her husband. Sooraj, who
works in a private bank and his friend, Suresh, a snake catcher ended in police custody in the last
week of May, in connection with the death of Uthra, 25 of Anchal in Kollam district.

Uthra was taking a recess at her home after undergoing treatment for a viper bite, when a cobra
bit her the second time; causing suspicion among her parents.

On 02 Mar, a viper bit her when she was at her husband's place. Sooraj gave his wife a pain killer
and advised her to sleep. He took her to the hospital only after she lost consciousness.

Uthra and Sooraj were married for two years and the couple have a one-year old son. Post
marriage, she faced problems from her husband and in-laws over dowry. And mind you, he was
given a car, gold ornaments and Rs.5 lakhs as dowry!

 (b) History-sheeter murders woman of 60.

Last Monday evening, Abdul Sali(65) and wife, Sheeba(60) were found seriously injured at their
house near Kottayam. While Sheeba died on the way to the hospital, Sali is battling for life in the
hospital. Muhammed Bilal(23) has been arrested as the accused. Bilal was known to the victims
because his family had stayed for a short while in a house behind their house.

The motive behind the crime was financial gain and the accused had fled from the scene of
murder with the victims' car, some money and gold. Earlier, he had hit the victims on their head
several times with wooden furniture. He'd also attempted to electrocute them which did not
       succeed!

 (c) Husband hands over his wife to friends for rape.

A woman, aged 25, was allegedly attacked and gang raped by her husband and four of his
friends, in front of her son(5), after forcefully being given liquor at Kadinamkulam about 20 km
       from Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday evening.

According to the victim, her husband - a daily wage earner - took her and their two children to
a friend's house, on the coast, on the pretext of enjoying the beach. She was then forced to have
liquor. Later, the four friends forcefully took her to a nearby bushy area, where she was sexually
abused, with the connivance of the husband.

Her son turned out to be the star witness!

My take.

Now tell me, isn't there something fundamentally wrong with the mallus? Are they fast turning out to be a depraved lot and if yes, why?

Tailpiece.

Had got up on the dot, the chores and was ready by a 10' past 9. Got our new set of spectacles from the nearby Rani Menon clinic and then, had gone across to the nearby Maruti Service station for recharging the FASTag.

At 4, the PN Panicker Foundation was online for the 'Aazhchakkoottam' deliberations....there were glitches galore!
