Targeted killings of Kashmiri Pandits and 'non-local' communities in the Kashmir valley must be stopped forthwith. Towards this end a strategy needs to be devised, executed and results achieved. The miscreants/trouble makers must be hounded out and neutralised. There should be zero tolerance on this count and the culprits nabbed should be given the punishment that they deserve. In other words, the punishment meted out must be exemplary
Eight people have been killed by gunmen since 01 May. Intelligence inputs indicate the targeted killings are a new modus operandi adopted by residual elements of the terrorist networks in Jammu and Kashmir. The support that these bad men get from the local populace also needs to be factored in and the supporters should be made to realise as to how painful it could be to support and provide any form of assistance to the hardened criminals/terrorists aided and abetted by Pakistan. The reason is crystal clear - by supporting/sheltering/harbouring enemies of the state, they automatically are guilty of anti-national activities and consequently, punishable by death.
What do these people want now? The government has opened up the economy, given new life to the economic activities and the mainstay of Kashmir's income through tourism has picked up in a big way. The Indian Railways have enhanced their fingerprint; tunnels and flyovers have improved communications. The resultant prosperity and the softening of the common man's attitude towards the Indian government have shaken the morale of the Pakistani-trained terrorists and they, in turn, are trying to be more vicious!
The culprits need to be caught in the act and punished in public, that will serve as a deterrent. Extraordinary situations require extraordinary actions.
Tailpiece.
