The 79th Independence Day.

Prime Minister Modi's speech on the occasion of the 79th Independence Day - from the ramparts of the Red Fort - was down to earth and matter of fact. He didn't blame anyone, instead said that the need of the hour was to get to be self reliant. Touching upon the successes of his governance over the last eleven years, he has exhorted the country to strive for excellence and work towards being a superpower by 2047.

S&P upgrades India rating

S&P upgraded India's sovereign credit rating to BBB (Investment-grade) with a 'stable' outlook.

S&P commended India's robust economic growth, political commitment for fiscal consolidation and conducive monetary policy to check inflation.

S&P has said that India is among "the best performing economies in the world".

The impact of US tariffs on India is "manageable" and won't drag economy, the rating firm has said.

BBB rating will cut India's borrowing costs in international markets.

Tailpiece.

Got up at 5, the chores. It was a thoroughly wet day!

Hoisted our national flag at the balcony and went about our chores. Could only hear a part of the Prime Minister's Independence day speech thanks to the rains.

Lekha sent the maid back, on completion of work, by Sukesan's auto rickshaw.
