This is a brief look at today's headlines and the news bytes that are grabbing eyeballs.
The US-China Trade Wars is Getting to the Next Level
The President of the United States has announced that he has banned Chinese airlines into the United
States because China refuses to concede to his demand of the whole truth about the Corona virus'
outbreak from Wuhan. He says that the malafide intention on the part of the Chinese government is
clear, in that, the pandemic never spread into any other city/area of China but spread swiftly into the
other parts of the world.
In addition, he has invited India, Russia, Australia and South Korea for the next G-7 summit that has,
clearly, irked the Chinese. It will be important to watch this economic warfare going to its logical
conclusion and someone is gonna get hurt, in the bargain!
My take.
If China had intended to capture the international markets without firing a missile and by spreading
a pandemic in the rest of the world, it will soon and harshly realise as to who will have the last laugh!
The Rising Numbers of Covid Infections in India
The total number of people afflicted with Covid-19, as of date, in our country has crossed the 2-lakh
mark and counting. The tempting and easy answer would be to blame it on the steady influx of Indians coming from abroad though it has contributed to the rising figures to a certain extent! But
what about the cases that have perked up for reasons not clear?
That information will definitely be an eye opener as they go deep into the spread, the background,
the reasons and as to why it follows that path?
My take.
It's my fond hope that the data should also provide us with tremendous opportunities in the field of
medical research and to have a critical look in the manner in which have been following our
medical practices.
The Brutality Towards Animals.
An elephant that was pregnant died in Kerala, standing in water, last Wednesday, after she ate a
pineapple filled with firecrackers, allegedly left by some locals. The fruit exploded in her mouth,
leading to the inevitable tragedy. The wild elephant had left the forests of the Silent Valley in
Palakkad district, meandering into a nearby village in search of food. Pineapples with country-made
crackers are usually used by the locals to protect their fields against wild boars.
So powerful was the cracker explosion in her mouth that her tongue and mouth were badly injured.
The elephant walked around in the village, in searing pain and in hunger. She was unable to eat
anything because of her injuries. "She didn't harm a single human being even when she ran in pain
in the streets of the village; she didn't crush a single home", wrote an emotional forester, Krishnan
in his FB post.
The elephant eventually walked up to the Velliyar river and stood there, with her mouth and trunk
in water, perhaps for some relief from the unbearable pain. She must have done this to avoid flies
and other insects on her injuries. The forest officials brought two captive elephants to lead her out
of the river. "But I think she had a sixth sense. She didn't let us do anything", Mohan Krishnan
continues.
She eventually passed away at 4 PM on 27 May, standing in water.
The elephant was taken back inside the forest in a truck, where the forest officials cremated her.
My take.
RIP o, noble one! My tears and prayers. I feel ashamed of being part of the human race who can
be cruel to the unsuspecting animals while he, himself, is facing the music from an unseen virus.
Why can't we love the others without any stops?
Tailpiece.
It was a quiet day with us getting up at our usual time, the chores and being ready by a half past 9. There was a spate of power interruptions all through the day. It rained, though not heavily!
