Adieu Brigitte Bardot!

In a film career spanning about 51 films and three marriages, Bardot symbolised a nation bursting out of bourgeois respectability and became France's best-known stars.

French film sensation of the '60s, died aged 91.

A symbol of sexual liberation in the '50s and the '60s, she'd reinvented herself as an animal rights defender and embraced far-right views.

She passed away in her Saint-Tropez home, La Madrague, on the French Riviera.

Born on 28 Sep 1934 in Paris, Bardot was raised in a traditional Catholic household. Married four times, she had one child, Nicolas-Jacques Charrier, with her second husband, actor Jacques Charrier.

She had become a global star after her appearance in And God created Woman in 1956 and gave up acting in 1973.

She turned her back on celebrity to look after abandoned animals, saying she was "sick of being beautiful everyday".

Adieu Brigitte Bardot! My tears and prayers for a talented actress.

Tailpiece.

Got up at 5, sent all the morning messages, switched on the hymns on the home theatre, lit up the lamp in the puja room and opened up the house for the day.

Had our morning cuppa and walked on the road outside The Quarterdeck. Recited my prayers.

Saw "Snehakkoottu", "Crime Patrol" followed by siesta.

The maid had washed down the Chevy after its recent run to Thiruvananthapuram and back!
