News snippets.

1. A Crazy Government Order.

An order issued by the state government directing the KSEB(Kerala State Electricity Board) to
provide power connections to all commercial buildings without the mandatory no-objection
certificate(NOC) from the revenue department, in eight villages of Munnar has kicked up a
controversy. The power ministry is looked after by MM Mani of the CPM while the revenue
department, by E Chandrasekharan of the CPI and therein lies the problem. Both the parties,
though within the LDF, are at loggerheads over the takeover of government land and the
mushrooming of 'concrete' jungles in the district.

VS Achuthanandan has called for rescinding the government order, forthwith.

2. Naik's Mysterious Fund Providers.

Controversial Islamic preacher, Zakir Naik, received crores of funds in his and his trust's bank
accounts from unidentified "well wishers", over the years, for his speeches that spread hatred and
incited Muslim youth to take up terrorism, an Enforcement Directorate probe has found. The
Islamic Research Foundation, Bombay-based charity trust promoted and controlled by Naik,
allegedly received funds in the form of donations and zakat(A form of alms given in Islam) from
domestic as well as overseas donors from countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait,
Oman and Malaysia among others, the ED has said.

The extent of Zakir Naik's perfidy is slowly unraveling.

3. Jagan Meets PM Modi.

Andhra Pradesh chief minister-designate YS Jaganmohan Reddy met the Prime Minister at his
residence seeking special category status and central funds to AP in view of the state's financial
condition. He has also invited the PM for his swearing-in-ceremony

Will he get the financial assistance, is the question.

4. Modernisation of the Statistical System.

The Niti Aayog Vice Chairman has stressed on the revamp and modernisation of the Indian
Statistical System so that real-time data is captured and used for policy analysis. It's an important
step so that planners are equipped with the requisite data for their work.

Will the exercise be taken up within the first 100 days of the new government?

Tailpiece.

Got up at our usual time despite it being a Sunday. Subin had made up for his lapse yesterday and dropped by to clear the overhead filter(Very less dirt, accumulated over the last six months, he said) and clean up the fresh water receptacle.

It was a quiet day otherwise and blazingly hot!
