Home grown flowers hit Kerala market.

Unlike previous years, when it had to depend on neighbouring states, especially Tamil Nadu, to meet the demand for flowers during Onam season, Kerala is bringing in home-grown flowers to the market this year. This is being achieved through extensive cultivation of flowers.

This year a total 485.3 tons of flowers, cultivated on 267.4 hectares of land are entering the market for sale. Marigold, with its orange and yellow varieties, is the flower being cultivated on a large scale.

Flowers imported from Tamil Nadu  

Marigold, vadamalli, arali, rose, semanthi, tulsi, small rose, and thechi are the flowers in demand for making floral carpets. Around 6-10 tons of the flowers are arriving in Kerala every day.
