Onam in Antarctica.

Wherever there are Malayalees in the world, there is Onam. And if there is Onam, then there is, of course, Pookalam. This time, the pookalam prepared by the Malayalees in Antarctica is getting a lot of attention.

Because flowers are not readily available in Antarctica, flowers were drawn on the frozen lake surface with hammer, knife and screw driver.

Five Malayalees from a 22-member team staying there as part of India’s 41st Antarctic Exploration Project have laid the pookalam over the lake. The pookalam was prepared in front of the Bharti station, an Indian research institute, in the bitter cold of -25 degrees Celsius (or - 13 degrees Fahrenheit)!

Tailpiece.

Got up a trifle before 6, the chores and was ready before 10.

A quiet Thursday.
