Shall we ever take a realistic stand on reservations?

The Supreme Court ruled that states must identify the 'creamy layer' within the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes and exclude them from quota benefits.

This is a good decision because those who are already wealthy, like the Paswan family, still claiming reservation benefits harms the chances of poorer SCs and STs.

However, I doubt it will be taken positively. The usual suspects, the 'aandolanjeevis' and the wealthy and the influential among the backward classes, will twist it to portray it as an attempt to interfere with reservations and as the first step towards diluting them, leading to protests.

If that happens, you can trust the centre to reverse it in the blink of an eye.

Only a few dominating sub-castes like Jatav, Meena, Paswan......etc garner maximum reservations thereby depriving the poor and the needy SC/ST people from the actual benefits of reservation. One of the judges who delivered the judgment in its favour, Justice Gawai, himself from the scheduled caste, had strongly supported the abolition of the creamy layer from the SC/ST.

My take

It's  high time that we introduced reservation on economic basis.

Tailpiece.

Got up at my usual time, the chores and was ready on a leisurely Sunday.

A meeting  with our Delhi co-ordinator regarding tomorrow's arrangements.

Lunch at Karnataka restaurant  and thereafter, to the Lajpat Nagar market for purchasing dress material in bulk, for our khadi store .

A lovely dinner from  Vandana, our landlord.
