PN Panicker's 109th Birth Anniversary.

Had got up by about a half past 6, thanks to an insistent Aniyan. The morning chores were carried out in another room because of two things:-

    (a) An MLA was coming in for an early morning occupation.
    (b) water was coming in a trickle in the taps.

The break up of our team had continued. We'd a short discussion with Raju regarding the enhancement of the bee farming in various parts of Kerala. People were seen off as they took permission to return. Aji and Vijayan were with us for breakfast and left for their destinations to complete pending jobs - Aji to Angamali to hand over the Science Exploratory to check its earthing and for the repair of the invertor, supplying the solar energy and Vijayan, to collect the generator from its OEM(Original Equipment Manufacturer) at Kozhikode.

We reached the DPC Hall by 10 and the public meeting began soon after. Many recalled their associations with PN Panicker, narrating anecdotes and the fact that came out from all the narrations was his perseverance, simplicity and the commitment to the cause. Laddus were served and everyone who were at the function was provided with lunch.

Muthachhan's birthday is also celebrated as the 'Social Worker's Day'. Five social workers were honoured for their contributions. Captain Nambiar, of the Indian Army, who'd taken an active part in the liberation of Goa was one among them.

We left Kasaragod by a half past 1, dropped Aniyan at Kozhikode and had set course for Guruvayur. The idea was to spend the night at my place and for Maman and the others to make a morning get away to Thiruvananthapuram, after a 'darshan' of Sree Gurvayurappan!

The Team.

Any description of events connected with the 14th Eco Digital Jan Vigyan Vikas Yatra would be incomplete without touching upon each and every member of the team who'd played a significant role in making the yatra a success despite hardships that were faced enroute. Their infectious optimism coupled with a positive outlook and smiling visages got us going all through. The play 'digitalkerala.com' won glowing accolades all the way and I never tired watching it so many times. So, let me introduce the team without ado:-

  (a) N Balagopal.  The Vice Chairman of the PN Panicker Foundation and my Maman was a master
at communications. His chatty conversations with the audiences were a hit.
  (b) Manu.             His son and my nephew, kept us in a light mood with his inquisitiveness and
                               wisecracks.
  The Entertainers(All from the police).
  (c) Nujumuddin. The dignified SI who played the pivotal role of Komalan. His bassy voice
along with punch dialogues made the street play a success.
  (d) Sharaffuddin. The most emotive actor of them all he, too, is an SI. Wielded the megaphone to
effective use, both at the commencement and towards the end of the programme.
  (e) Anil Karette.  The ever pleasant, shy, long haired director of the play. His presence in and on
the stage made sure that everything went off like clockwork.
  (f)  Subhash.         Serious looking yet fun loving. You won't believe that he's a constable.
  (g) Shamnad.        A constable. Another good actor as the aged grandfather. His beckoning of
'Sankarankutty' became popular with the mimics.
  (h) Soulwin.         An ASI, he has a twitch of a nerve in his neck that was 'gifted' to him by some
agitators, a few years back. The tall and paunchy driver of his team's traveller
is quite realistic in his attitude towards life.
  (j)  Vijayakumar.  The smiling, ever friendly yet quiet constable.
  (k) Jayakumar.      The serious looking yet friendly SI. Worked efficiently behind the scenes.
  (l)  Haji Kumar.    The hard working and sincere SI who was in the forefront of his team playing
                                a cameo.
 (m) Sudharman.     A quiet and sincere constable, who tended the sound system, behind the scenes.
 (n)  Shyju.              Serious looking but broke into a smile at the drop of a hat. Begins with the
                                introductory scene.
 (p)  Sunil.               The wiry yet strong constable who smiled easily. As the 'book seller' in the
play, he lived his role and through his dialogue, put across the theme of the
                                 yatra succinctly.
 The Science Exploratory Bus.
 (p)  Aji.                  A happy-go-lucky guy made for the Science Exploraratory, matching in size! Is
                                efficient and ever smiling.
 (q)  Suresh.            Thin and lanky, he'd joined us on the eve of the yatra. Took time to settle down
but showed his efficiency behind the wheel.
 The Noise Maker!
 (r)   Vijayan.           The most gregarious of the lot who laughed easily. He drove well and handled
the computer juxtaposed, the-theme-of-the-yatra-splashed Ace with ease.
 Our Charioteer.
 (s)   Manu.             An efficient and intelligent driver, applies his mind only to get into trouble with
                                his boss!
 Kudumbasree.
 (t)   Sinaaz.            Bearded and looks quiet. Is energetic and is a good driver. He zips!
 (u)  Usman.           Understudy to Sinaaz. Drives well and is a good mimic, who laughs easily.
 Book Mark.
 (v)  Madhu.            Drives very well and is reliable. Looks serious but don't make any mistake, he
                                loves to play pranks!
 (w) Saji.                 Serious looking but ever ready to smile. Used to get very upset if any of the
panchayats did not do things that were expected of them. He wanted us to protest
and it took me time and my experience to explain the reasons as to why we
                                couldn't.
  Honey Float.
 (x)  Rajendran.       A man for all seasons. He's energetic, an outgoing person and the trouble
shooter. Spoke his mind without restraint!

It was a fantastic team and we've promised to be in touch from now on. Many of them have promised to come to Guruvayur......we've become a family of sorts!

And I'm gonna hear the song - lyrics by Poovachal Khader and music by MG Radhakrishnan - along with the introduction to PN Panicker that emanated those 33 days from the speakers mounted on our lead vehicle - the themed and colourful Ace, driven by Vijayan - for a long time to come!

Tailpiece.

1. Lekha had returned from my sister's at Palakkad by the early morning low floor bus. Preetha was at the bus stop, nearby, to receive her. She'd gone to the temple and to purchase sundries from the market.

2. Sathi chechi had called up to say that Radhan chettan was admitted in the Amala Hospital with a Creatinine reading of 10.6 and was in coma. Must look him up.
