Everything that happened was unexpected!

Was woken up by a half past 2 by Mari from Kottarakkara, saying that Murukesan - husband of Letha, Lekha's elder sister had passed into the mist of time. Earlier, he was watching the television and seeing his granddaughter, Devu at play. All of them had turned into bed and about half an hour later, there was a loud thump on his younger son, Anand's bedroom door - it was Murukesan calling out to his son that he'd difficulty in breathing.

Anand had taken his dad to the nearby Government Hospital in his car. Earlier, Murukesan had walked into the car but didn't make any conversation throughout the little time in this world he had. The chief medical officer checked him up and had referred him to the Sri Uthradom Thirunal Hospital at Thiruvananthapuram, pronto but as Anand and the ambulance driver was about to lift Murkesan on a stretcher to be secured in to the vehicle, the health worker was quick to note that the body was lifeless.

The doctor checked the pulse yet again and the worst was confirmed. Since his elder son, Sakthi was in Dubai, he will fetch up only tomorrow morning. The body will be brought into the house from the morgue by about 0800 hrs. After the connected ceremonies are completed, the funeral is expected to take place by around 1100 hrs.

Om Shanti! Sadgati. Remembering the good times that we had during our first trip to Tirur, Murukesa.

Lekha gave the me idea of leaving Guruvayur this afternoon itself and to spend the night at Raj Nivas so as to be on time to receive the body at their house. Accordingly, the house was shut down and after having a quick, light lunch, we'd hit the road in our Chevy by a half past 12. It seemed to be a good start to a long journey but somewhere short of Puzhakkal, the Chevy showed problems in its engine pull and there was a steady amber light of the fuel pump on the dash board.

Not taking any chances, especially because Lekha was with me, I drove into the Geeyem Motors and reported about the problem. Jibin immediately scanned the system on the computer and took the vehicle for a test drive and confirmed about the problematic fuel pump. I gave them the permission to place an order for a new item from Pune and arranged for a cab to resume our journey.

Kannan - a simple lad, who was ecstatic when I explained to him the significance of the places and landmarks during our drive - was our sa'arthi and we recommenced our journey around 1600 hrs. Kannan was sent to have his dinner at Kayankulam by 2000 hrs because Lekha had got packed dinner for just the two of us as per our earlier plan. Enroute, the traffic was very heavy and by the time we reached Letha's place at Kottarakkara, it was about 2130 hrs. After sitting along with the family for a while we set off for Raj Nivas. We reached there by 2200 hrs where the caretaker was awaiting us after doing the cleaning of the house, on my directions, early this morning.

A quick unpacking, the chores and we were ready to hit the sack an hour later.

What an unexpected turn of events?!

Tailpiece.

Tomorrow is gonna be a long and hectic day. Hope things go smoothly.

Will be offering my prayers at my Mom's cremation spot - early in the morning - as it is her 5th Remembrance Day by the English calendar.
