Muthachhan's 113th birthday celebrations (2).

Had got up around 4 in the morning, washed up and recited my prayers, albeit, not completely and turned off to catch up on my sleep. Got up at a half past 6, the chores and was ready by a quarter to 9. Recited the Vishnu Sahasranama Sthothram, soon after bath.

We headed straight for the auditorium where everything had to be done by us, like cleaning up the short flight of stairs to the dais, laying out the seating arrangements and even organising the audience who'd picked up during the course of the morning.

Today, the guests of honour were Mr K Rajan, the revenue minister and K Jayakumar, IAS, Director of Institute of Management in Government The chairman and the vice chairman of the Foundation conducted the course of the meeting which began at 1100 hrs. Fr Laahel Geeverghese was felicitated when the minister draped him with a shawl. He had been with Muthachhan during his Library and Literacy movements. I proposed the vote of thanks.

The minister and Mr Jayakumar spoke at length about their involvement with Mr PN Panicker and underlined his clarity of thought - peppered with a lot of anecdotes - and his perseverance towards his work.

The lunch that was provided was scrumptious.

The main audience had broken off by a half past 2. Sajeela Nissar, of our technical staff, conducted classes for 30 young ladies who'd just completed their diploma in fashion technology. The conduct of the classes went off smoothly and I was pleased with the keenness shown by the participants - all of them in their early 20s.

By the time, we'd wound up for the day from the auditorium by a half past 3, the place had got filled up by the usual crowd that comes there. I think, the regular visitors to this place were eagerly looking for tomorrow's session which begins a bit earlier than today, at a half past 9. Went back to the Foundation by a half past 3.

Was there till a quarter to 8 after setting things ready for the meeting tomorrow. Returned home to a quiet evening.

Tailpiece.

Chambu had come straight to the auditorium and had given me feedback on his exam - he definitely looked relieved and said that he has done well; his body language said it all. Poor fellow!
