'The Kerala Story - yet another viewpoint.

@maryashakil
The Kerala Story is disturbing as it is thought provoking.

Love Jihad and Islamisation of Kerala is a running theme across the movie. Against popular belief, the term Love Jihad originated in 2009, when at the Catholic Bishops Council, the Christian clergy asserted that their women were being lured away into conversion. Later in 2010, VS Achuthanandan, CPM leader and the then Kerala CM, had spoken about the threat of Islamisation in Kerala, after the radical organisation, PFI had chopped off the hands of a college lecturer in Taliban style operation.

He also alleged that Muslim groups were converting non Muslims to Islam by luring them using money and using religious diktat to convert.

Later, in 2012, Congress CM Oommen Chandy, on the floor of the House, admitted to more than 7,000 conversions between 2006 - '12 to Islam. As recently 2020, the Syro Malabar Church issued a strong statement against Love Jihad. In 2021, the Catechesis department of the Thamarasserry Diocese released a handbook warning of Love Jihad.

The Kerala High Court, on several occasions, has intervened on matters of Love Jihad...

But all these have so far remained confined to Kerala and were spoken in hush tones. The Kerala Story threatens to blow the lid off it.

What made Vipul Shah make and actress @adah_sharma act in a film on a topic as controversial as Love Jihad and global Islamic terror's most dreaded network, the ISIS?

The movie has expectedly come under a lot of criticism and Muslim bodies are up in arms. The Kerala government filed an FIR when the first trailer was released sometime last year. Now that the film is scheduled for a 05 May release, do the producers think it could potentially put the release in a quandary?

Tailpiece.

The day had begun with heavy early morning showers.

Got up around 6, the chores and was ready by a 10' past 10.

A quiet May Day.
