Today, we continue our journey on the famous foods of India and the three states that we cover are Bihar, Chhattisgarh and Goa! So, without much ado, let's go on that ecstatic tour.

4. Bihar

The famous foods of Bihar include dishes of Bhojpuri, Maithili and Magahi cuisines. Rice, Sabzi and Pickle are the staple food of Bihar. Rice-based alcoholic drink, Handia is an important part of the life of Bihari people, although Bihar is now a "Dry State". Bihari Cuisine include a variety of veg and non-veg food recipes.

Some famous Bihar dishes are Litti Chokha, Thekua, Sattu. Sattu has many health benefits. This popular dish belongs to Bhojpuri cuisine. Maithili cuisine has been greatly influenced by Nepali cuisine. Panch Foran spices is commonly used. Magahi cuisine is popular in the eastern part of the state. "Sarson Ka Jhor" is popular in every household. Sarson ka tel (Mustard oil) is the most common oil used in Bihar cuisine. Thekua is served as 'prasad' during "chhath" festival and consumption of dairy products is very high in the state.

5. Chhattisgarh

With rice, urad dal, maize, wheat. Jawar, chicken, mutton and leaf vegetables are consumed in the state. Rice is used in many sweet dishes. The cuisine of Chhattisgarh has the influence of neighbouring states like Orissa, Jharkhand and UP and it includes rangy and sour dishes. The recipes are very simple and easy to cook.

Recipes include coconuts, rice, cashew, vinegar, seafood, pork, beef. Being a coastal state, fish curry and rice are the staple food. Foods like Chicken Vindaloo, Sorpotel etc are dishes from Portuguese cuisine.

The food of Goa is mostly based on seafood like fish, prawns, lobster, crabs, squid, mussels. Fish like Kingfish, Pomfret, Tuna, Shark, Mackerel, Sardines are extrememy popular. It is the Portuguese who introduced tomatoes, potatoes, pineapple and cashews to Goan cuisine.
